GLASGOW School of Psychology & Neuroscience

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Vacancy Ref: 154649 Closes OCt 11th 2024

3-year appointment

We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral Research Associate for a three-year project on the role of the thalamus in spatial memory in freely behaving rodents, working with Kate Jeffery and Mick Craig.

We are looking for a postdoctoral research assistant to undertake a project working with Prof. Kate Jeffery and Dr Mick Craig, investigating the origin and purpose of a type of neuron that we recently discovered in the anterior thalamus. These neurons resemble the well-known hippocampal place cells but are in a different structure: one long associated with memory. The project, working with rodents, entails tracing the connections of these neurons, characterising their electrophysiological activity during waking and sleeping, and then manipulating this chemogenetically. You will be working in a newly formed group called the Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, and have the chance to interact with other related research groups in a lively intellectual environment.

The successful applicant will have experience in rodent electrophysiology, ideally during behaviour, and a passion for understanding the neural foundations of cognition.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent research experience, plus a track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality conferences/journals.
